Coming Soon – Watson Bra & Bikini!

Watson Sneak Peak | Cloth Habit

After months of hard work, my new pattern Watson is finally coming next week! Today I wanted to give you guys a little sneak peak.

My idea for the bra pattern began well over a year ago. I’d been inspired by longline soft bras and experimented with a few versions for myself. And I’ve got to say, it’s become my favorite bra to wear and make!

Some of my regular visitors have probably noticed that I’ve been “nesting” in preparation for this pattern. I gave Cloth Habit a facelift and reorganized it to make tutorials and sew-alongs easier to find. (Look under the Tutorials & Tips tab.)

In case you’re curious about this dress form, she’s one of my new tools! About a year ago Alvanon was developing a form specifically for swim and lingerie and I bought one of their development prototype forms at a discount.

And it’s an incredible form. It’s squishy in all the right ways and shaped to mimic actual body posture–it even has clavicles! More importantly, the measurements are aligned with my base sizes so I get to try out styles on her. This is not the only way I will fit new patterns, but it’s a great tool.

That’s it for today… I’ll be announcing the release next week!

  1. This is so pretty! I can’t wait for next week! I love longline bras. I can’t wait to get my hands on this pattern! I see that it’s wireless, do you think I can change it to include wires?

  2. Kohlrabi says:

Can’t wait! I have ordered bra making supplies months ago after being inspired by your beautiful bras and have worked on a few muslins from a Merckwaerdigh pattern (including modifying it to a longline bra with vertical seams) but I had difficulties with getting the right sizing/fit. If the pattern is half as good as your posts and tutorials (how could it not?) this will be totally awesome! *happy dance*

  3. Debbie says:

I’ve been thinking of trying a long line so this is good timing!

What type of fabric did you use for the pink bra/panties and where did you get it? I really like it!

  4. seenaomisew says:

Congratulations! So excited for you Amy. I’ve been happily sewing bras ever since the sew along. My girls are going to adore this pattern. The new site is lovely. Good luck!

  5. Novita says:

Amy, these are so beautiful! I always love how you combine materials and colors. Can’t wait to see the pattern, I need a longline bra in my closet!

  6. ebonyh says:

How exciting! I’ve been looking to try out lingerie sewing and this is just the sort of bra pattern I’ve been on the lookout for. Beautiful work; can’t wait to see more soon!

  7. Francesca says:

Yeah! Can’t wait! This looks fab! I have been waiting for an unwired pattern that looks supportive for ages

  8. Ranae says:

    Hi Amy!

I am wondering if you have any recommendations for a dress form. Hoping to get one in the next month, and want to get something that will last. I have seen the adjustable singer models in fabric stores, and am sad to see how cheap they look and feel. Anyways, I would love your input!

  9. Grace says:

This is so exciting! I am dying for a longline bra pattern. I know that larger cup sizes are a little rare, so I hope that I’ll be able to adjust the cups if necessary.

  10. Fleur says:

Oh I love working with the Alvanon forms so much! You lucky thing getting hold of it during their discounted phase, I just missed it and now really humming and hawing over the $$ investment. P.s very excited about the upcoming patterns too!

  11. Kathy Sews says:

I’m on the edge of my seat!! It’s a long line?!! I see that the back band looks on the wider side because of the length… this is great, I find a slightly wider band looks so much smoother under clothing… skinny bands=back fat city. Can’t wait for the release, I bet I have all the bits and bobs in my lingerie making stash for this.

  12. Ramona says:

I’m watching for this one. Love the long band. I have been searching for a long band bra. Of course, I’m a 34GG, so alterations will have to be made and support is questionable. I’m hoping the right fabrics and good underwire may make the difference.

Looks like it will be a beautiful pattern.
