Watson Sew Along Schedule

Watson Sew Along | Cloth Habit

Happy New Year everyone! I’m a day (or six) late, but I hope your holidays were happy and full of love. Here’s to a wonderful year in sewing!

I’ve been recuperating from travels, planning new projects for the year and of course I’m getting ready for the Watson Sew Along. That’s right, we’re going to get down to making some Watsons.

Making this set is surprisingly fast but this will be a leisurely sew along that’ll give you room to catch up, or sew slowly, or sew other things in the midst. We don’t get started on cutting until January 23 so you have some time to find your materials.

The Schedule (Updated!)

Please see the Watson Sew Along page for a complete list of all published tutorials!

If you have already made one or two (or some of you many more!), I promise there will be a few new tips along the way to add to your lingerie-making arsenal.

How fun, Amy! I was planning on making a long-line Watson next, but will just wait and join with everyone else. Thank for hosting a sew-along again. The last one was so much fun, and I’m sure this one will be just as fun if not more.

I’m looking forward to sewing my first bra. I have my fabric kit from Blackbird Fabrics and am trying to figure out what all the little bits of fabric are for and which type of elastic is for where. Yes, I need this sewalong!

really excited that you are doing this. i want to try but ive never attempted lingerie before so i will be thankful for a little handholding.

Christine – do you live in the US? I also a kit from Blackbird Fabrics as soon as she announced them but haven’t received it… hopefully if you are in the US and have it mine will arrive soon. And, I definitely need the sewalong also!

I have just today finished my first Watson and this is only the third bra I have made so I am rather unsure how to sort out the fitting problem. I am therefore looking forward to any tips I can get before I start another.

hutrah! Thanks for doing the sew along. I’ve been eyeing off some of the great versions around the blogosphere and I known average inspiration to see along. Thanks!!

I really want to join this but with another baby on the way I have to wait until my size stabilizes some. I’m really interested to hear from any bustier women who participate in the sew along, since I am not one of those who can comfortably go without much support. I’m thinking it will be an amazing option for a more comfortable sleep/nursing bra next summer!

Thank you for organising this sew-along, I am really interested as I need bras!! I have worn underwires for years for lift and find it interesting that the longline band does the same.

    • Amy says:

Hi Sharon! Longlines do help with lifting, but a wire is definitely going to add even more. So I wouldn’t say it does the same (not even on me) but it has more lift than a soft bra with a shorter band. Hope that helps!

    Dear Amy!

Thank you for this pattern! I have just bought it a few days ago and already made my first bra! I love it! I am an absolute beginner sewer (I have my sewing machine since 3 months) but all notes, which you made, were so easy to understand ! I am so gratefull! I can say that I started my adventure with sewing a bras with your help – I really appreciate it 🙂
Do you think I can add wires or foam to this bra as well? I realy would like to try something new and learn more and more 🙂
I am looking now for more rounded bra pattern, like you used in this tutorial, but actually I can not find anything online or in any bookstore in Poland. If you know where I can buy one I will be realy happy 🙂
I took this picture just after I’ve finished 🙂

    Thank you so much! xoxo

Hi Magdalena, I am sorry I missed your comment. Thank you so much for your kind compliments and I’m glad you are finding the tutorials so helpful.

If you want a wired bra, I would suggest using a pattern that is specifically made for wires. Since the Watson was not designed around wires there are some differences between it and what I would consider a good wired bra pattern. Since you are new to bra making, you may want to try a pattern that is specifically made for underwires in order to get a feel for how different bra styles work.

Also I do not usually recommend foam for the Watson bra unless you want to make some cup alterations so that they are bigger to accommodate fabric that does not stretch. (Foam does not usually stretch or enough for this pattern’s fabric recommendations.)

For bra patterns, you may want to take a look at my bra resource page. I don’t list patterns on this page but many of the stores that I list from Europe sell bra patterns and wires. (I don’t know of any Polish but there are shops in Germany, Spain, England and Netherlands that sell bra patterns internationally.)
