Hello my fantastic bra-making friends, we still have a few days before the sew-along starts, but I wanted to invite y’all to join the Bra-making Sew Along Group on Flickr.
This will be a central forum where we can ask questions or participate in group discussion, post photos of bras, materials, fittings, etc. You can always ask questions here on the comments, but I know it’s not always easy to go back and forth to different posts to find your answers. As of today we have over 100 joiners or maybes for the sew along! So hopefully this will help us get to know each other. Even if you’re a maybe you’re still welcome. Experienced bra-makers, you are also welcome to join and participate in whatever way you like!
For discretion, this is an invite-only group with a private discussion forum and group photo page. To join the group, you need a Flickr account (it’s free), and then send me a “join this group” request via the main page. Edit: In your request, please tell me what pattern you’ll be making so I know you are familiar with the preparations so far and you’re not a stranger!
Naomi asked a really good question about whether you’ll need to purchase extra materials for a test bra. Not necessarily! I’ve been making “bra muslins” using muslin or some basic cotton or muslin scraps I have around for the front of the bra, and something like ribbon or scrap elastic for the straps. Some of you may have enough materials left over for a 2nd bra or for cutting a few test pieces. In all honesty, in bra-making (as with anything sewing!) experience will be your best friend, so if you have enough to make two while it’s all fresh on your mind, go for it!
Take care y’all, and Happy New Year!
